About

I’m a patient person, but when it comes to food, I get a little antsy. I burn my mouth because I don’t like waiting for food to cool and I’m guilty of staring through the oven glass, waiting for the slight hint that whatever I’m making is done. When it comes to food, though, it really does pay to be patient, whether it’s waiting hours to be sat at a great restaurant, or watching the clock tick as succulent duck confit tenderizes in the oven.

In my own case, patience has led me to living in New York City, pursuing my culinary passion for cooking. I had dreamed of attending culinary school since I was in high school, and after successfully graduating from The University of Kansas with degrees in journalism and English Literature in May 2010, I graduated from The French Culinary Institute in June 2011.

I’ve been cooking for my family since I was young, and I’m happiest when I’m entertaining friends in my own kitchen. Cooking has always brought me joy. I love the process of considering the menu for a particular occasion, researching a recipe, planning the execution of the meal, considering the beverage accompaniments, preparing each course and ensuring each guest has their expectations met and exceeded.

It is my desire to immerse myself in different areas of the restaurant industry to better prepare for a career in culinary media. I want to understand the industry as well as I can, and that means researching through experience. I'll be sharing my culinary journey here.

Cheers,

Lauren Hendrick
